SAILeR

The SAILeR consortium will meet at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, on 8–9 October 2026 for the project's second in-person meeting. The meeting will bring together representatives of the partner higher education institutions and members of the project's Quality Assurance Committee to review progress, discuss emerging results and coordinate the next phase of project activities.

During the first year of the SAILeR project, partners have moved from initial research and co-design activities towards concrete results that support educators in learning design, AI-supported course development and study programme design.

Research is a central part of SAILeR and provides the foundation for the development of new approaches and tools for learning design, AI-supported education and learning analytics. The project combines literature reviews, empirical research with educators, conceptual development, user evaluation and scientific dissemination, with research findings feeding directly into the further development of the Balanced Design Planning (BDP) tool. 

Several research directions have already resulted in scientific publications and conference presentations.

The SAILeR project is already contributing to the further development of the Balanced Design Planning (BDP) tool, translating project research and educator needs into new functionalities for learning design.

Members of FOI's Learning Analytics Laboratory (LA Lab) this year again took an active part in the Learning Analytics and Knowledge conference (LAK26), held between 27 April and 1 May in Bergen, Norway. 

As part of the SAILeR project, five focus groups with experienced higher education teachers were conducted at partner universities in Croatia, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland and Spain.

The kick-off and coordination meeting of the new Erasmus+ project SAILeR is taking place in Varaždin on December 4 and 5, 2025. The project Streamlining AI in Learning Reimagination (SAILeR) is the third in a series of three Erasmus+ projects coordinated under the leadership of Professor Divjak.

The Faculty of Organization and Informatics University of Zagreb, will host the kick-off and coordination meeting of the new Erasmus+ project SAILeR – Streamlining AI in Learning Reimagination on 4 and 5 December 2025 in Varaždin.

The Streamlining AI in Learning Reimagination (SAILeR) project brings together five leading European universities, each contributing unique expertise in learning design, educational technology, and artificial intelligence. Together, they will co-create innovative and ethically grounded approaches to teaching and learning in the AI era.
